As part of the school’s efforts to promote a greater awareness for environmental issues and to encourage pupils to understand more about living a green lifestyle, Canossian School has embarked on an initiative to encourage pupils to care for and maintain plants in their individual class gardening plots in the Edible Garden.
The initiative began with teachers attending a gardening workshop in March. The workshop equipped them with the basic gardening skills as well as an introduction to the uses of some of the herbs and spices in our Edible Garden.
In Term 2, pupils started planting seeds and plants in their class gardening plots. They also carried out basic maintenance of the plants in their plots.
Coming up in the pipeline in Semester 2 is a composting workshop where pupils will be taught how to compost and thereafter be actively involved in composting. Through these efforts, it is hoped that they will appreciate nature a little more as well as develop a deeper love and respect for the environment.
